About Rosie Freckles
I have been making things that make me and others happy since I was little. The lovely Mrs McGinn who looked after me sometimes then was also a maker of beautiful sparkly ballroom dresses – I would sit at her feet as she sewed on an old Singer treadle machine and bits of net and satin and sequins would ‘rain down’ on me sometimes. I became addicted to making things then and there.
As a teenager I recycled/upcycled clothes and bags before that even was ‘a thing’ – mainly out of financial need but also wanting to look ‘different’. I also went to drama school and learned how to make costumes without patterns and all sorts of fun stuff.
Through a chance meeting a friend I made around then was an expert hand sewer of the most amazing handsewn Liberty of London hexagon quilts. it was the late 1970s era of patchwork and quilting coming back into fashion, the time of Laura Ashley and Liberty prints and that was it!!! I was addicted to fabric.
Hooked on sewing ever since I undertake commissions for all sorts of things and sell online through my Etsy shop ‘Rosie Freckles’.
Sew in the Moment marks my return to hand sewing for mindfulness and, particularly at the moment, a very restful way of creating and being calm and ‘in the moment’.
